Flanking sound effectively decoupled
The 'Woodie' in Hamburg is Europe's largest timber student residence, with the individual modules bedded on Sylomer® for soundproofing.
The solution for sound control in timber construction
Timber construction has great potential for the future: short construction times, negative CO2 balance, precise prefabrication and a low dead weight. However, it is precisely the advantages of lightweight construction that make noise protection a challenge for building acoustics. For the effective isolation of the sound transmission, in addition to the direct passage of sound, the decoupling of flanking sound must be taken into account in particular. The joint insulation Kij plays a key role in planning the architectural acoustics. It provides information about the acoustic coupling of a component joint. If the right decoupling version is used, there may even be no need for a dry lining.
For these requirements, Getzner offers an elastic bearing for element construction, modular construction or hybrid construction. The respective type of timber construction is considered as a whole and flanking transmission is avoided to improve the acoustics. In addition to the highly effective Sylodyn® strips, it is also important to select the right fastener between wall and ceiling.
Ceiling structures mounted in this way can attain an impact noise insulation level Ln,w of 38 dB and a rated sound reduction index Rw of 79 dB. This means that planners do not have to make any compromises in terms of sound control, regardless of the modular or element construction method, and noticeably increases the quality of life and living comfort.
Your advantages with sound control from Getzner
- Maximum soundproofing in timber buildings thanks to elastic bearing of the flanking elements
- Total acoustic decoupling using approved fasteners for element and modular construction
- Sustainably produced, durable and free from harmful plasticisers
Timbercalc: Planning made easy
With TimberCalc you can calculate Sylodyn® strips quickly and flexibly for your bedding of flanking elements in timber construction. This is now also possible from your own workplace.

Case study
Three steps to success
The challenge: A timber building for several parties requires soundproofing from both outside and inside
The Getzner solution: Elastically suspended ceilings and decoupling of the flanking elements with Sylodyn® strips for optimal acoustics
The result: Sustainable, natural and fast construction without noise pollution or restrictions on living comfort
„Due to the additional use of elastic fasteners, sound bridges were consistently avoided. Our architectural acoustics measurements on the property confirm the high effectiveness of the elastic bearing through excellent soundproofing values.“
