Insoles and midsoles for the footwear industry
When it comes to comfort, you need elasticity – especially for insoles and midsoles in the footwear industry. Depending on the application, a range of characteristics are required. In medicine and orthopaedics, the aim is to achieve the best possible stability with optimum damping. Sports shoes call for light materials which absorb the energy produced and return it to the athlete, thereby improving their performance.
Our g-sole portfolio of insoles and midsoles fulfils these requirements perfectly. Whether you need highly damping or dynamic materials, we have the right solution.

The g-sole portfolio for insoles and midsoles at a glance
The g-sole portfolio comprises six foams which are organised into three segments. Simply select the most appropriate insole or midsole material for your requirements.
Skin friendliness
All g-sole products have been dermatologically tested and approved for kindness to skin. They fulfil the requirements of regulation (EU) 2017/745 (MDR) with regard to being free from contaminants and are suitable for medical applications in orthopaedics. Direct contact with skin is also harmless even over longer periods of time.
Breathability
Selected g-sole materials are open-cell, which ensures better breathability.
Why use polyurethane for insoles and midsoles?
A range of different plastics are used for insoles and midsoles in shoe manufacturing. Polyurethane (PU) is ideal for this because of its particularly high durability. Unlike other foams, it is not permanently compressed, even under repeated heavy loads. This allows it to maintain its performance across the entire lifespan of the shoe – even if these are worn often and for long periods. PU is also soft and elastic, yet it reliably offers the necessary support as required.
How is g-sole used for insoles and midsoles?
PU is incorporated into the insole as a damping material – either fully or partially. Depending on its use in the Medical, Recreational and Performance sectors, it is either used as a pad, a complete sole or to support the feet. It helps to correct individual foot deformities and relieves pain as well as discomfort. As a result it is also ideal for use as an orthopaedic insole.
How are PU insoles and midsoles beneficial to health?
Medical
In medical soles, g-sole insoles and midsoles have a supportive effect on hallux valgus, as well as knee and leg deformities (genu varum, genu valgum).
Recreation
PU insoles and midsoles also work to prevent calcaneal spurs, among other things.
Performance
In sports, insoles and midsoles with g-sole act to prevent Achilles tendinitis and torn ligaments.
