Urban Soul: the new quarter in the heart of Bonn
Right in the middle, yet quietly located – thanks to vibration protection by Getzner
The Urban Soul is one of the most prominent building projects in Bonn in recent years. The makers of this major project set themselves the ambitious goal of reconciling the central location at the main railway station with a high quality of life - despite heavy noise pollution as a highly frequented traffic junction. Getzner´s vibration-isolating solutions are a key success factor here.
The challenge
The new gateway to the city centre was designed for an urban mix of uses with a high comfort. The former inner-city problem zone, the so-called Bonner Loch, is now home to a hotel, a lifestyle house with a fitness studio and restaurants, and a city office.
The central location with railway tracks, underground and tram ensure good connections, but same time the building complex is also considerably exposed to vibrations. Thus the high dynamic excitation would not only have been clearly noticeable in the buildings, but would also have led to problems due to structure-borne noise. Conventional sound insulation measures such as soundproof windows are ineffective here.
The Getzner solution
All three building sections were completely elasticly decoupled with Sylomer® and Sylodyn® in order to achieve the greatest efficiency. A mixture of point-, strip- and full-surface bearings in different characteristics were used, individually calculated and designed by our experts together with the involved specialist planners.
The benefits
- Highly effective vibration protection for best living and working conditions
- More flexibility in planning and buliding use even for vibration prone areas
- Holistic protection for people and buliding structures: value-adding, durable, maintenance-free
- Innovative PU material, sustainable production, German National technical approval (AbZ)
For us, the elastic decoupling was essential for the success of the project, as it was the only way to implement the hotel use with a Motel One above the underground station. In particular, secondary airborne noise as well as possible noise from incoming and outgoing trains had to be controlled in order to protect hotel guests,
