Ireland: Vibration protection for an expanded tram network
Dublin’s tram system, known as the LUAS, is currently being expanded. In the course of this, two sections of the new B1 Cherrywood line were outfitted with highly efficient vibration protection: Getzner Werkstoffe was responsible for the vibration mitigation measures in this project, which involved the installation of ballast mats in the ballasted superstructure.
A noise and vibration study commissioned by the engineering office Arup (Ireland) came to the conclusion that Sub Ballast Matting would be recommended in the areas to be protected. The Somague/Bowen/Sacyr consortium in charge of the construction decided to install Getzner's Sylomer® B 119 ballast mats, which can be laid without any problems even in the most adverse weather conditions. Getzner has developed its own welding technology for this purpose. This advantage was decisive for the construction companies, as the weather in Ireland often impedes the construction work. As an additional service, Getzner experts were available for on-site installation. With the help of the technology, three people were able to lay over 500 m² of Sub Ballast Mat in one morning.
