New case study: 30 years of vibration protection for the Philharmonic Hall Gasteig
A new publication on the long-term effectiveness of under ballast mats from Getzner is now available. The case study “30 years of vibration protection for the Philharmonic Hall Gasteig” gives an insight into the results of a study on the long-term properties of the under ballast mats. Back in 1983, Getzner installed a vibration protection solution in the adjacent rapid transit railway tunnel to protect the cultural centre in Munich from disruptive vibrations. Now the studies can verify this solution's impressive long-lasting effect.
High performance of the under ballast mats
After a total of 30 years' use, both the quality of the under ballast mats and the structure-borne noise in the Philharmonic Hall were examined. Getzner performed a number of tests under the supervision of Deutsche Bahn AG – the German national rail operator – and in cooperation with the Institute of Road, Railway and Airfield Construction at the Technical University of Munich. The results show that the high level of acoustic performance remains intact even to this day – the materials still have the same properties and effect. "All the tests indicate that our under ballast mats will remain effective for at least another 30 years. If we take the standard track service life of 50 years for our calculations, then we can be sure that the under ballast mats will remain effective throughout and beyond this period," explains Product Manager Mirko Dold.
