New Case Study: Vibration protection for Hitachi high-speed trains
As part of the Intercity Express Programme, the British Department for Transport is investing in new high-speed trains from Hitachi Rail Europe, which belongs to the Japanese group of the same name. As the focus is on a high level of comfort and the safety of passengers and staff, the project's decision-makers have opted for elastic floating floors from Getzner.
Greater passenger comfort with less wear
"Carriages with vibration-isolating floors are considerably quieter than conventional carriages,” says Tomoko Takekawa, General Manager of Getzner Japan. Vibrations and noise are generated by the drive motors and unevenness on the track while the train is in motion. To reduce this to a minimum, Getzner is equipping all the Intercity Express Programme trains with floating floors. "This reduces the transfer of vibrations to the interior fittings, the structure and the electronic components, which reduces wear and in turn lowers maintenance costs," explains Tomoko Takekawa. A total of 78,000 linear supports made of the fire-retardant material Sylomer® FR are being used.
