Noise isolation for Steig/Mels power plant

The power plant in the Steig/Mels region in Switzerland was elastically mounted in the spring and back in operation again by June. The two residential homes in the immediate vicinity presented a particular challenge during the implementation of the structure-borne noise protection measures: in addition to the official airborne noise immission regulations, the stipulations in respect of the shock and secondary airborne noise immissions caused by the new hydroelectric power plant also had to be observed.

The new construction of an underground power house on the premises of the Stoffel AG textile factory was initiated by the Appenzellisch-St. Gallische Kraftwerke and is operated by this company to generate electricity. The entire foundation block of the power plant was fully supported on floor and side surfaces. The products Sylomer® SR 28, SR 55 and SR 110 were used. The different materials on the individual side surfaces or parts of side surfaces result from the specifications for displacement or torsional boundary conditions. In total, about 170 m² of surface area were equipped with Sylomer®.

The sound insulation is particularly well received by the residents in the neighbourhood - this is also confirmed by Ralph Egeter, Managing Director of Kraftwerk Stoffel AG: "The residents can no longer feel any vibrations in their nearby single-family homes. With full support we can recommend the products used for further projects". But also control measurements of the plant show the positive effect of the elastic mounting: the required limit values can be clearly met.
