Successful business year marked by positive market cultivation and new innovations
Buers/Austria. In 2013, Getzner Werkstoffe posted an overall turnover in the region of 65 million euros. This represents an improvement of 9 percent on the previous year's figures for the vibration protection specialist. The board puts these results down to successfully cultivating international markets as well as a stronger presence in new and core markets. Continuing to develop a portfolio of high quality products acts as a further contributory factor.
Getzner, a vibration protection specialist for the construction, rail and industry sectors, can look back on a positive financial year. In 2013 the company achieved overall sales of 65.1 million euros, representing an increase of 9 percent over the year before.
"Not only did we see positive developments in the international markets during 2013, but we were also able to set quite a few things in motion," explains Jürgen Rainalter, Chief Executive Officer of Getzner. He continues: "It was in the rail sector – thanks in part to China – that we recorded the strongest growth for 2013, with the sleeper pads product group leading the way. It is also pleasing to see extra business in our core industry sector." Over the previous year, Getzner has been able to bring even more innovations to market and has been constantly refining its product range. In addition, Getzner has strengthened its presence in some national markets, as borne out by the opening of a new site in the USA for example. "We have also boosted our levels of engagement within our core markets and have adopted a more focused approach to a few specialist business areas. In parallel to this, we have been able to conclude some strategic partnerships in a number of countries. Together this has translated into positive growth for our business," concludes Jürgen Rainalter. Customers from around the globe are currently served by 220 Getzner staff in Vorarlberg, supported by 99 colleagues overseas. Getzner is confident of further growth across the entire group for 2014.
According to the board, the reasons for the growth in turnover recorded over the preceding financial year can be found in positive market cultivation and a torrent of innovation. These are supported by high product quality and the constant search for new fields of application. Getzner launched several new developments in 2013, including "Getzner Embedded Rail" – a highly efficient vibration protection solution for trams and light railways. Like an envelope for light rail tracks, it minimises noise and vibrations directly at source and delivers a more peaceful life to those in the vicinity of railway lines. This innovation has also impressed the jury of the Austrian "Staatspreis Innovation 2014", a state award scheme that recognises innovative companies. "Getzner Embedded Rail" will be the only nomination from Vorarlberg at the awards ceremony in Vienna on March 26th 2014. Another development from the Vorarlberg-based company is the "Construction Mat". In one project delivered during 2013, it was deployed over an area of 2500 m2 as a vibration protection solution for the MPREIS supermarket at the former Hotel Post in Arzl, Tyrol, where it is isolating noise and vibrations from heavily-used floors and provides a special dampening effect on the noise level in commercial and industrial buildings. Launched in 2013, the Sylomer® FR material is a new product for ensuring vibration protection in areas at risk from fire. Proving Getzner's credentials as a development partner for industry customers is the "chili feet" project, in which Getzner developed a unique material as a heat-generating insole for a company in Switzerland. This material converts the pressure exerted on the sole when walking into thermal energy.
After twenty years in the US market, Getzner founded its own subsidiary in Charlotte (NC) in 2013. Jürgen Rainalter explains why this decision was taken: "The USA and Canada are extremely promising markets for us. With a local presence we can respond quickly and improve the service we provide." In other markets and business sectors Getzner operates with cooperation agreements. As the exclusive partner of an international rail vehicle manufacturer, Getzner will in future be the sole supplier of floating floors for rolling stock for projects in Japan and the United Kingdom. "We are conducting some pioneering work in specialist fields, including heavy-duty rail transport. Our elastic sleeper pads have proved themselves on test tracks in the north and south of India. There is no doubt that this will be the focus of future projects," concludes Rainalter.
