Stuttgart: Extension of the urban rail line U6 to Fasanenhof
Stuttgart’s urban railway network is being extended by 2.5 km this year, as the U6 line will run all the way to Fasanenhof. In order to protect the surrounding residential areas, Getzner Werkstoffe is responsible for ensuring top-notch protection against vibrations. This will be implemented over a stretch of about two kilometers in the open cut sections and in tunnels.
In the course of the planning approval, the Beyer building dynamics office carried out a vibration analysis. The result of the survey made it clear that various vibration insulation measures are necessary.
For this purpose, the commissioned track construction companies laid a total of around 7,000 m² of ballast mats and 1,000 m² of side mats made of the vibration-insulating material Sylomer®. Installation was carried out on a compacted mineral base layer or on the tunnel floor. In addition, a full-surface mass-spring system (MFS) was laid in a 30-meter long section of lawn track.
The ARGE U6 Stadtbahnanschluss consortium installed strip storage for a MFS over a length of 130 metres in the mining tunnel area. The bearings - made of rigid Sylomer® - have a thickness of 70 and a width of 400 millimetres. Similar bearings have been proving their worth for years in several underground railway projects, for example in the Munich underground network.
