New Polyurethane material to absorb impacts
Sylodamp® from Getzner protects people, machines and their surroundings
The vibration protection specialist from Austria is launching a new range of elastic materials: Sylodamp®. Specially designed for the highly effective damping of powerful impacts, Sylodamp® benefits people, machines and their surroundings.
When impacts with high force peaks are exerted on people or machines, often severe and sometimes irreversible damage results. As a remedy for this, Getzner has developed a new range of elastic polyurethane (PU) materials, which prevent the negative effects of these impact loads. “Installing our new materials improves both working conditions and occupational safety, as people are protected from impacts and vibrations. In machines and electronic equipment, it ensures uninterrupted operation and less material wear,” summarises Marcel Mattheus, product manager at Getzner. He continues: “We have almost 50 years of experience in vibration protection to draw on and the durability of the material has been proven time and again by external testing bodies.”
The correct material stiffness for any load
Six types of Sylodamp® in finely graded levels of stiffness absorb impacts in different load ranges. The six types are identified by different colour shades. Getzner offers customised solutions as well as punched parts and cuttings in a wide variety of dimensions. “In order to achieve maximum effectiveness, we individually calculate the optimal material design to satisfy any requirement based on the finite element method (FEM). Using the correct, tailored materials is the key to highly effective damping. The experience and personal touch of our experts really makes the difference here,” explains Markus Heim, Sylodamp® project manager at Getzner.
Impact insulation for people, machines and their surroundings
Elastic mounting on Sylodamp® prevents excessive wear of mechanical components from quick material fatigue, even when continuous impact loads are involved. The material has already proven itself in numerous applications in a wide range of fields, including as impact protection in mechanical and apparatus engineering; as vibration protection under machine mountings, compressors, baggage carousels and conveyor belts; as a damping element in vehicle construction; to improve precision in sensitive equipment like displays and microscopes; to absorb vibrations in sports hall floors; as transport protection for heavy goods; to protect the musculoskeletal system from abrasion or overloading in sports fabrics or as shoe insoles.
Durable high-performance shock absorber
The outstanding damping characteristics of Sylodamp® cancel out shock pulses much more quickly; a potential rebound is prevented thanks to the material's impact resilience. The material absorbs specific energy extremely effectively over the long term and with no change in quality thanks to its mixed-cellular pore structure. Sylodamp® is UV and ozone resistant, and is produced without generating any greenhouse gases. Combinations of Sylodamp® with Isotop® elements or Sylomer® materials offer an ideal solution in a wide variety of applications for minimising vibrations and effectively absorbing other shocks and impacts. “With the Sylodamp® high-performance shock absorber, we have added another long-lasting form of vibration protection to our material selection, completing the range,” enthuses Juergen Rainalter, Chief Executive Officer of Getzner. All the Getzner materials considerable reduce the transmission of vibrations, sound and structure-borne noise in the rail, construction and industry sectors.
